WASHER TANKS - OXALATE REMOVAL ``ALUMINIUM OF GREECE``

About the “OXALATE REMOVAL PROJECT”

“Aluminum of Greece” as a member of MYTILINEOS GROUP is the largest vertical producer of aluminum and alumina in the EU and one of the most robust growing industrial companies in Greece. Its international business activity is a driving force for the national economy, but also for the development of the Greek region.

The industrial production of MYTILINEOS in the facilities of Aspra Spitia – Viotia is oriented towards particularly demanding technological applications. These are usually heavy and/or complex metal constructions, with high quality requirements.

MYTILINEOS aluminium plant is one of the strongest pillars of Greek industry and has established itself as one of the strongest players in the Metallurgy sector in the European Union, with an annual production capacity that exceeds 190,000 tons of aluminium and 860,000 tons of alumina.

Two Washer Tanks were designed to be installed in the industrial area of the existing plant in Viotia. Its tank diameter was 16m and the height was 18m. The two tanks communicate each other through a corridor at the top of a steel piperack. It was really challenged for our engineers to assign the full detailed geometry of the structures, in order to prepare o LOD400 BIM model in Tekla Structures. The overall weight of the tanks was 260tn of steelwork and 200tn of platework.

POSITION

We cooperate with the design department of ERGOPRAXIS, as we were awarded with the scope of the civil design of all steel structures and their foundation. Our scope was to participate in all phases of the civil design having taken into acount all the MEP design data taken from the Mechanical Engineers of ERGOPRAXIS. Our engineers created all the structural analysis models and optimised their design in the final stage. We create a full detailed Tekla Structures model (LOD400), in which all the design team and the awarded steel fabricator company ERGOTEM S.A. had access through the model sharing process of Trimble.
